Starting September 6, 2025, FIRST Tech Challenge teams will investigate the power of the world’s artifacts and unlock mysteries in a new challenge, DECODE™ presented by RTX.

FIRST Tech Challenge teams design, build, and code robots to compete against other teams in an alliance format. Using a reusable platform powered by Android technology, students create awesome robots that can perform thrilling tasks!

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) aims to ignite a passion for STEM among young minds. The competition hopes to inspire the next generation of leaders and problem solvers while fostering innovation, creativity, and teamwork. Students learn:

• Use easy-to-assemble plastic pieces, you'll create functional and cool robots
• Team up with others to tackle fun tasks and score points together.
• Prepare for the Robot Skills Challenge, where your robot will show off its moves.
• Not a fan of driving? No worries! You can also let your robot take control in the autonomous coding challenge.

What is VEX V5?

An advanced robotics platform where teams build metal-based robots using powerful V5 motors, sensors, and pneumatics. Competitions feature alliance-based tournaments on a 12'×12' field.

Competition Highlights

• Gameplay: autonomous period + driver-controlled matches; alliances of two teams compete to score blocks in goals.
• Skills Challenges:
  • Driver Skills: Maximize points under driver control.
  • Autonomous Skills: Score points via fully coded routines.
  • Judged Awards: Engineering notebooks, design innovation, and programming excellence.
• Tools & Complexity: Requires mechanical tools (e.g., torque drivers, pneumatics toolkit), CAD software for custom parts, and extended build/testing cycles.
